Have A Heart for Danes
In honor of our special needs Danes, the children and staff of Grandfather Home put on an event today - amidst the frantic 12/26th shopping in a local mall - with Danes, Scooby, homemade dog biscuits, and pictures with Scooby or a real live Dane. Rudy, our 2005 Broadway Barks Pet Hero, was there stationed on his trademark crib mattress with 2 year old Gabi, 10 month old Bailey, and 6 month old Grace . . . plus about 20 kids from age 6 through 17.
Early snow slowed us down a bit, but by 10:30 am we were set up inside the mall with the dogs and were ready to woo the shoppers. Though we are not sure how much impact it had, we had managed to have both TV and radio announcing our appearance in the mall. Amazingly, a number of people who came by, stuffing money in the dog's donation coats, had visited us earlier this year at the October Woolly Worm Festival in nearby Banner Elk. By 4:00 pm, the dogs, the children, and all of us staff were more than ready to fold up the tent and head home for a nap.
Many MANY thanks to the dogs, the children and the staff for making this event possible!
