ADELINE
Adeline is an 18 month old merle female with natural ears. She was given up by her family because she is so timid and fearful they didn't know how to deal with it. She came in with another female, possible littermate who is as timid and fearful as she is.
Adeline is currently in a foster home with a male Dane, a female toy breed and a cat. She has no issues at all with any other animals. She has bonded to her foster mom but still has irrational fear of her foster dad. She does not growl or bark at him but she will run from him if he tries to approach her, especially if the foster mom is not home. She will break thru gates, or leap over fencing and railings in her panic to escape. Because of this irrational fear, we will need to be very selective of the home she goes to and how willing the males in the home are to work with her. She will do best in a home with no men.
She can meet men fine on a leash or even in the home, but she needs to be with a female who she is comfortable with for security. We have no history of her with small children so she will not be placed with any.
Adeline is crate trained, she actually really likes her crate for security, she walks well on a leash and is 90% housetrained. She cannot be left unattended or she will possibly have an accident or chew something she shouldn't.
Adeline came in knowing no commands and has had no training. She is walking nicely on a leash and has learned "sit". She has a long way to go with training and obedience classes should help build some confidence. She is very affectionate and will "chitter" to show her love. She is a true velcro Dane to her person, if that person is female. She has no sense of personal space, she will walk against you, around you and on top of you. She needs to learn appropriate boundaries or she will send someone tumbling.
Adeline is a pretty girl who needs someone to show her she has no need to fear anyone anymore. She will blossom in time with the right handling, training and direction.
Adeline came to MAGDRL in April of 2010.
Update 6/1/10 - Adeline was moved to a new foster home and is doing very well there. She has mingled in seamlessly so far with 5 other dogs, a cat and a child. From day one she was wagging her tail and following the 8yr old girl around. She has also bonded with the foster mom and has become her shadow 95% of the time. She does show some reservation towards the foster dad at times, but has gone up to him and leaned into him for attention.
She has very little to no manners and once she feels more comfortable her excitement can be overwhelming. She will require a patient, loving and diligent hand that will take the time and make the effort to work with her on a daily basis and take her thru training. She is a diamond in the rough. An absolute sweetheart wanting nothing more than to please you and be your everyday companion. Coming from isolation at 7 weeks of age, to a home with love, attention and playmates, nothing less can be expected.
She will sit on command and wait for release when being fed or taken out. She is a smart girl and obviously wants to learn and to please. A home with a large canine companion will benefit her greatly. Adeline loves the companionship of the other two danes and has already developed a close following to them, which will help her build up a little more independence and confidence. Within 2 days she started playing with them and will lay next to them outside. She is fine with the other smaller dogs, but she seems to prefer the danes, being able to relate to them. And considering she spent most of her life isolated with her sister, that is understandable.
Over the last few days she has been given a little more freedom inside and outside and seems to truly enjoy the ability to move about. She does pace back and forth often, but yesterday she finally started settling down and laid down with the other dogs near her foster mom. She also found the toy box and has been enjoying them as well. Although she has not done any counter surfing, she does like to take a peek of what's up there. So far the only thing she has gotten herself into was some gardening gloves left out on the table. She seems to really like them. Other than that she has been great going into her crate and keeping it clean. She doesn't make a sound while in there during the night. Given the chance and the guidance, Adeline will make a very loyal and loving companion to both humans and animals alike.
Special requirements: Fearful of men; obedience training required.
