Events and Activities
MAGDRL is involved in quite a few activities and events to find homes for our Danes and to do fund-raising to support our work. Fund-raising is a necessity because each dog we receive is taken to a veterinarian for health checks as necessary and spayed/neutered before adoption. Because we are a volunteer organization, 100% of every single dollar raised goes toward the care of our dogs.
One common event is called a "Meet and Greet". At this type of event, MAGDRL will set up a table at a business location (typically a pet supply store) and will introduce our group to the public. We supply written information on all aspects of Great Danes and educate interested individuals or families on the prospect of adopting or fostering a Dane.
There are always some ongoing activities and fundraisers and we're always interested in taking on new volunteers! Events listed on this page include New Jersey and near-by portions of Pennsylvania, New York and Delaware.

Join us for our seventh year of participation in Broadway Barks. Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters will host the eleventh annual BROADWAY BARKS!, a star-studded dog and cat adopt-a-thon benefiting New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies. The event, produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and sponsored by the ASPCA and Pedigree? with additional sponsorship by the New York Times will take place on Saturday, July 11h in Shubert Alley (located between 44th and 45th Streets, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue). Celebrity presentations of pets from citywide animal shelters will take place between 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Last year's participation was a great success. Join us again this year! This year Moore and Peters will be joined by such luminaries of the stage as Elizabeth Ashley (August: Osage County), Matt Cavanaugh (West Side Story), Michael Cerveris, Gavin Creel (Hair), Hope Davis (God of Carnage), Christine Ebersole (Blithe Spirit), Rupert Everett (Blithe Spirit), Sutton Foster (Shrek), John Glover (Waiting for Godot), Lauren Graham (Guys and Dolls), Kate Jennings Grant (Guys and Dolls), Haydn Gwynne (Billy Elliot), Allison Janney (9 to 5), Gregory Jbara (Billy Elliot), Andy Karl (9 to 5), Marc Kudisch (9 to 5), Angela Lansbury (Blithe Spirit), Michael Mastro (West Side Story), Judy McLane (Mamma Mia!), Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages), Karen Olivo (West Side Story), David Hyde Pierce (Accent on Youth), Alice Ripley (Next to Normal), Bryce Ryness (Hair), Christopher Siebert (Shrek), J. Robert Spencer (Next to Normal), John Tartaglia (Shrek), Harriet Walter (Mary Stuart), Chandler Williams (Mary Stuart) and famed Broadway animal trainer, Bill Berloni with his pal, Nigel (Toto in The Wiz at Encores!) will be presenting the animals for adoption.

Saturday, July 18 - Yard Sale / Flea Market Come join us for a huge sale where you can get fantastic bargains and help our orphaned Great Danes in the process. Many, many different people have contributed items to sell so we have a far better selection than the usual garage sale. We are looking for donations of items in new or like-new condition. If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs. If we purchase a computer it will go to India. If we purchase fruits and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala. If we purchase a good car it will go to Japan. If we purchase useless stuff it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy. We need to keep that money here in America. The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it at yard sales, since those are the only businesses still in the US. Saturday, July 25 - Yard Sale / Flea Market Please come join us for a day of great sale items and wonderful bargains!! Everything from kitchen ware to baby cribs and even a "Man Table" so the boys are not too bored!!!! All the proceeds of this sale will go to benefit all our orphans in MAGDRL, from our NY chapter down to NC and will help to provide emergency medical care and routine vetting, training and any assistance in their foster homes needed while they wait for their forever homes to find them. Please come out, enjoy the day with friends and visit with the Danes while you hunt for your own treasures to take home.... We will have a table of information about our rescue if you are looking for more information, wish to volunteer, foster one of our gentle giants or maybe wish to adopt. In addition to selling off all these fabulous items, we will be collecting donations for our Danes in foster care, such as (gently worn or new) collars, leashes, beds, crates, quilts, blankets, toys, etc... Feel free to stop by, say hi, get a slobbery kiss from Shark and the others and see what is up for grabs. You know what they say... One man's junk is another man's treasure!!! Saturday & Sunday, September 19-20 — Meet and Greet at the Wings & Wheels Expo Teterboro Airport Here is a short write up about this event from the Aviation Hall of Fame Museum, the organization that is hosting this show: Come and see "Yankee Lady", an authentic Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, "Spirit of Freedom", a Douglas C-54 "Skymaster", many other historic and modern aircraft, Vintage cars and race cars, antique military vehicles and much more!
